My Practice

DSC09564.jpg

My practice is based on building trust with my clients. I create space for this by including an extra 15 minutes of time for a pre & post massage check-in.

In session, I draw on a number of massage modalities and ground my practice in trauma informed & gender affirming care. I blend myofascial release, Swedish deep tissue, and neuromuscular techniques. I also offer intra oral massage.

Myofascial work is excellent for clients who hold chronic tension or pain in their bodies from injuries, emotional stress, and/or systemic oppression. The tools I use depend on what your body is ready for and include lifting, stretching, pulling, vibrating, holding, pressing, and inviting in breath. This work is often done “dry” or without oil/lotion.

Intra Oral massage involves both external and internal massage of the muscles that are attached to the jaw and tongue. Gloves are worn for the internal massage. It’s gentle work that is excellent for those who:

  • Clench or grind

  • Get headaches or migraines

  • Have whiplash

  • Have TMJ issues

  • Received major dental work

  • Experience chronic neck or ear pain

Swedish massage is all about long strokes of increasing pressure that invites deep relaxation into the muscles while soothing the nervous system.

This style is great for clients who are looking to relax after a stressful day, re-ground after travel, or integrate after a major life change.

Both of these techniques are collaborative and target muscle tension from injuries or general muscle cramps. I use trigger point work to pinpoint and release tight bands of muscle with the help of my client’s deep breathing. I also utilize a neuromuscular technique that involves my clients activating specific muscles in a controlled position while I apply a counter force.

Session Structure

My sessions are unique because I offer time for a pre & post check-in without sacrificing your time on the table. Pre check-ins can include: assessment of injury/issue, further health history information, how you’re feeling, or intention setting. Post check-ins can include: body scans, exercises, movement techniques, or other homework tips. Pre-session time is also where we'll come up with a plan for areas to focus on in the session.

Draping

After our check-in conversation, I will leave the room and you can undress to the level of your comfort and then get under the sheets and blanket like you would in your own bed. For some people, that means being all or partly naked underneath the sheet and blanket – some people choose to leave underwear on, and some choose to take it off. I will undrape only the part of your body where I am working. Sometimes I will work directly on your skin, and sometimes I will work through the sheets. I will verbally check in when I am working around your hips and chest when needed for accessing some muscles. I will keep your genitals, gluteal cleft, and chest (for all genders) draped at all times.
